After sealing the all-time record for the most assists in a Premier League season (21), Portuguese playmaker Bruno Fernandes has added another trophy to his cabinet in the form of the coveted Transfermarkt Premier League Player of the Season award. Each season, TM users come together to vote for their player of the season in each of the top leagues from a shortlist of 24 players (six from each position) put together by the TM team.

Tens of thousands of you voted and Manchester United's midfielder Fernandes picked up just over 29% of those. In second place was Manchester City striker and Golden boot winner Erling Haaland with 19% of the vote, followed by his teammate Rayan Cherki in third with 11%. Surprisingly, despite winning the league for the first time in 22 years, no Arsenal players made the top three, with Declan Rice the highest in fourth with 8% of the vote.

How Bruno Fernandes joined list of TM royalty

Fernandes continued to prove his critics wrong this term, enjoying his most successful season, numbers-wise, in the Premier League. He now joins a list of legends to win the TM Player of the Season award in the English top-flight. Last term, Mohamed Salah smashed the vote to win the award, with Phil Foden winning in 2023/24 and Haaland taking glory in 2022/23.

Portuguese star Fernandes and his teammates were certainly aided by mostly playing just one game a week throughout this season, after being knocked out of both domestic cups in the first round and no European football at Old Trafford. Nevertheless, the United skipper was exceptional in the league and played a pivotal role in dragging the Red Devils back into the Champions League places - eventually finishing third. His form particularly flourished since the appointment of Michael Carrick in January, with the Englishman allowing Fernandes a more attacking role in the team.

At TM, we also have a breakdown of which player received the most votes for the positional voting (goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, attackers). To no great surprise, Golden Glove winners David Raya led the way for goalkeepers with 51% of the vote in that category. Arsenal centre-back William Saliba was the most voted defender with 50% of the vote ahead of teammate Gabriel, who got 29%. Fernandes of course won midfield, with Haaland leading the way with 65% of the voting in the attackers category. You can read more about the other winners in Europe's top five leagues below.
