It was another famous season for PSG as they retained their Champions League crown with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia their talisman. The Georgian winger won the French giants the penalty, which Ousmane Dembélé converted, to level against Arsenal. Kvaratskhelia registered 10 goals and seven assists in the competition, which was more than any other player.
Crucially, the 25-year-old stepped up in crucial games with 10 goal contributions in the knockout stages, which ranked him amongst the best players in Champions League history. This season, Kvaratshkhelia cemented his reputation as the best left-winger on the planet and his market value soared in the latest Ligue 1 market value update to reflect his status. The PSG star received a €50 million upgrade to his new valuation of €140m, which ranks him amongst the top ten most valuable players in the world. Moreover, Kvaratshkhelia’s €50m rise is one of the biggest upgrades in a single update in history.
The biggest market value rises in single Transfermarkt update
Since Transfermarkt’s launched their renowned market values in October 2004, Kvaratshkhelia’s €50m rise in market value is the joint-fourth largest upgrade ever recorded in a single update. Neymar and Vinicius Junior are the two other players to receive a €50m upgrade in one update with the Brazilian’s achieving that at PSG and Real Madrid respectively. As the graphic below illustrates, Mohamed Salah holds the record for the biggest market value upgrade in a single update.
The Egyptian’s valuation soared by €70m from €80m to €150m in May 2018 after he registered 43 goal contributions in 36 Premier League games for Liverpool. Lionel Messi ranks second after his phenomenal start to the 2017/18 campaign for Barcelona with his market value rising by €60m to €180m. Kylian Mbappé (+€55m) is the only other player in history to receive a bigger market value upgrade in one update than Kvaratshkhelia. The top 15 list above features some legendary players including Kevin De Bruyne, Harry Kane and Cole Palmer.
