Charlotte FC have signed Australian striker sensation Archie Goodwin from Adelaide United. The 20-year-old forward has signed a deal until the end of the 2028 season. Transfermarkt understands that Charlotte FC have paid $2 million (€1.7m) for the Newcastle, Australia native. It is the biggest deal in the history of the A-League side, surpassing the €1.5m Adelaide received for Joe Gauci in 2023/24 (overview).

“Archie is coming off a strong first season with Adelaide United at just 20 years old, and we can’t wait to see him carry that momentum with us”, Charlotte FC general manager Zoran Krneta said in a club statement. “His awareness within the box, willingness to run and attack spaces are a few of the top qualities we saw that made us want to pursue him. We want to see Archie develop and create good competition within our club.”

Goodwin’s numbers have indeed been fantastic. The young forward managed to score 13 goals in 26 A-League Men games for Adelaide United, enough to be the joint top goalscorer in the Australian first division (overview). As a result, the A-League has lost both of its top goalscorers from last season, with Sydney FC’s Adrian Segecic also moving on from the league, joining English club Portsmouth this summer.

More than doubled his market value – Who is Archie Goodwin

Last season has been a phenomenal breakout year for Goodwin. The striker joined Adelaide United from Newcastle United Jets on a free transfer in the summer of 2024. The striker had managed just two goals and one assist in 20 games for Newcastle in the 2023/24 season. As a result, his market value was just €225,000. The move to Adelaide worked out for everyone involved. Goodwin went on an incredible goalscoring run and more than doubled his market value from €225,000 to €550,000. That value will only increase now that he has secured a €1.7m move to Major League Soccer.
