Transfermarkt has adjusted the market values of 238 players in the latest intermediate Championship market value update this October. Remarkably, the English second-flight is actually the sixth most valuable league in world football, only behind Europe's top-five leagues. It's a division brimming with talent, as teams battle it out for a place in the Premier League. Among the biggest winners of the Championship market value update were Ipswich Town's new signing Kasey McAteer, Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney, and Leicester winger Issahaku Fatawu. Ipswich, Southampton and Coventry rose the most in squad market value, whilst Hull City and Blackburn Rovers were the only teams to see their squad value drop.
Kasey McAteer, Hayden Hackney & Co. - The biggest winners
McAteer left one relegated club for another this summer and for a surprisingly high fee, as the Irishman traded Leicester for Ipswich for €13.9m. He has featured seven times for the Tractor Boys in the Championship but is still yet to score or assist. However, with his market value previously being at just €2m, he jumps up by +€10m to a new value of €12m. The next biggest rise came for Middlesbrough and England U21 midfielder Hackney. The 23-year-old was key for England U21s in their Euro 2025 triumph and was close to moving to Ipswich this summer for a fee well north of €20m. There has also been reported Premier League interest and Hackney's value shoots up from €12m to €20m.
Another big riser is Leicester winger Fatawu, who has started the season as a true menace to defences and looks like he will be a key player for the Foxes in their quest to return straight back to the top-flight. He will need to start adding better numbers to his game, but his value increases by +€7m to a new figure of €18m. Other winners from the update include West Brom midfielder Isaac Price (+€7m to €10m), Ipswich teenager Sindre Walle Egeli (+€5m to €20m), Norwich and USA striker Josh Sargent ( +€4m to €20m), and Birmingham and England U21 forward Jay Stansfield (€15m).
Taylor Harwood-Bellis & Leif Davis remain league MVPs
When it comes to the Championship MVPs, it's actually two players who retain their value who continue sharing top spot. Southampton centre-half Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Ipswich left-back Leif Davis each hold a market value of €22m. Both stars still reportedly have interest from Premier League clubs, but will need to start improving their team's fortunes to retain their status as the league's most valuable players. Behind them is Walle Egeli (€20m), Hackney (€20m), and Sargent (€20m). Then we have Fatawu (€18m), Jacob Greaves (€18m), and Swansea talent (on-loan from Brighton), Malick Yalcouyé (€17m). With Jaden Philogene (€16m) and Finn Azaz (€16m) completing the top 10.
Wonderkids Jay Robinson & Jeremy Monga rewarded
Two extremely young talents who are grabbing the eye from the Championship are Southampton's Jay Robinson and Leicester's Jeremy Monga. Robinson was given his first market value of €1m after starting the Saints opening game of the campaign. He has continued to be a first-team player since - the 18-year-old has played seven games in the Championship, scoring a goal and providing an assist - he shoots up to a new €6m market value. Towards the end of last season's relegation campaign, one shining light for Leicester was winger Monga becoming the second youngest player in Premier League history. The now-16-year-old had reported summer interest from many of Europe's top clubs but chose to sign a pre-contract agreement with the Foxes for when he turns 17 next summer. He is currently injured but rises from €5m to €8m for now.
Ipswich & Coventry among biggest squad value increases
When it comes to squad market values, the biggest increase came for Ipswich, who went up by +€19m to a new squad worth of €198.4m. The Tractor Boys remain the Championship's most valuable team despite their rocky start. They were followed by Southampton, who saw their squad value increase by +€15.7m to a new figure of €188.5m. Coventry are the next biggest risers, with Frank Lampard's team shooting up by +€15.3m to a new squad value of €108m after their positive start to the campaign.
How Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.
The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
