Newcastle picked up an impressive 2-0 win over Tottenham on Wednesday, as they overcame their Premier League rivals to reach the next round of the League Cup. And while the opening goal may have come about from Fabian Schär header, the match was ultimately decided early in the second half when Nick Woltemade double his team's lead. And it's a sight that Newcastle fans are certainly getting used to.

The mid-week cup match was only Woltemade's 11th game for his new club, but the towering striker has quickly made an impression on the St James's Park side since his €75 million move from Stuttgart in the last few days of the summer transfer window. So much so that many are already suggesting that the German international may not only be an ideal replacement to Alexander Isak, but could even go on to be a better No.9 for Eddie Howe's side. And the stats may back up such an outlandish claim.

Woltemade Stuttgart vs Newcastle stats

Indeed, Wednesday night's goal was Woltemade's sixth in a Newcastle shirt and while he has yet to notch a single assists for his new club, six goals in his first 11 games gives him an impressive return of 0.73 goals and assists per 90 minutes for the Premier League side. As we can see, he hasn't quite hit the heights that he showed back in the Bundesliga for Stuttgart, but he's still doing very well. And perhaps even surpassing his predecessor in Newcastle's attack.

Woltemade vs Isak after 11 games

As we can see in the graphic above, Woltemade's record in his first 11 games for Newcastle certainly compares favourably to Isak's first 11 games with the club. In total, the Swedish striker played 548 minutes of football and scored just three goals, which gave him a somewhat lacklustre average of just 0.49 goals per 90 for the Geordie club. And while that isn't terrible, it isn't quite what Woltemade has achieved to date.

This, naturally, stands in stark contrast to Isak's form for Liverpool. Since making his €145m move to Anfield, the 26-year-old forward has struggled with match fitness and has yet to play a full 90 minutes of football for Arne Slot's side. However, in that time he has made eight appearances across all competitions, picking up just one assists in the Premier League and a solitary goal in Liverpool's League Cup win over Southampton last month.
