The countdown to the 2026 World Cup is on. In just nine months time, the biggest ever edition of the most watched sports tournament in the world will begin in Mexico. The festival of football will also extend across the United States and Canada, as 48 teams compete for international football's most coveted prize. Most avid football fans know that Miroslav Klose tops the all-time World Cup goalscoring charts after her overtook the Brazilian Ronaldo in 2014. But many supporters may be less familiar with the list of the top 10 players with the most all-time goal contributions (goals + assists) at World Cups. The most goal contributions in World Cup history
Players who are level on goal contributions have been separated by the least amount of World Cup games played. In first place is the legendary Brazilian Pelé. The icon won the tournament three times and accumulated 21 goal contributions in just 14 games. In second, but also with 21 goal contributions is the majestic Lionel Messi - the 2022 World Cup winner has accumulated those numbers in 26 matches. If he plays in next summer's tournament for Argentina he could go to first place.
In third is the former German Gerd Müller who clocked up 20 goal contributions in just 13 games. Fourth goes to the Brazilian striker Ronaldo, who managed 20 goal contributions in 19 World Cup matches. Klose takes fifth with 20 goal contributions in 24 games. Also included in the top 10 is German attacker Thomas Müller (eighth with 16) and the legendary Diego Maradona (ninth with 16). Kylian Mbappé is also 11th with 15 goal contributions in 14 games and could climb the list next summer.
