Xabi Alonso has enjoyed an encouraging start to the season with Real Madrid despite the devastating derby defeat to Atlético Madrid. The Spaniard took charge at the end of last season ahead of the Club World Cup with Los Blancos exiting the tournament to PSG in the semi-finals. The Club World Cup allowed Alonso to cast his eye over his players ahead of the new season, with the aim of upsurging Barcelona in LaLiga.
Madrid’s history in the Champions League is unparalleled, as the most successful club ever in the competition with 15 titles and the expectant Madristas will be eyeing the final in Budapest. The season started brilliantly for Alonso with six consecutive wins in LaLiga before the damaging 5-2 defeat in the Madrid derby. Kylian Mbappé has started the campaign on fire with 13 goals in all competitions but which players received the biggest market value increases and downgrades in the LaLiga update? Let’s find out.
Real Madrid: Biggest market value winners and losers from LaLiga update
The intermediary LaLiga market value update was released on Thursday, October 2nd with Real Madrid remaining the most valuable squad in the world. Franco Mastantuono received the biggest upgrade of any LaLiga player with his valuation rising by €20 million to €50m. The Argentinian joined the Spanish giants in the summer from River Plate and he’s made a positive impact, scoring his first LaLiga goal against Levante. Arda Güler and Álvaro Carreras both received €10m upgrades, making Guler the most valuable Turkish player in history at €70m. As the graphic below illustrates, Dean Huijsen and Fran Garcia also enjoyed increases to their market values.
It wasn’t all good news for Madrid players, however, with several high-profile players experiencing downgrades. Vinicius Junior received the biggest downgrade of €20m with his valuation dropping to €170m - the Brazilian’s record market value was €200m. Vinicius’ international colleague Rodrygo was downgraded by €10m due to falling out of favour with Alonso.
