194 Students in Garut Suspected of MBG's Poisoning, 19 Students Intesively Treated

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG- Hundreds of elementary, MA and junior to high school students in Kadungora District, Garut Regency, West Java, allegedly suffered mass poisoning after eating free nutritious food (MBG), Tuesday (16/9/2025) yesterday. As of Wednesday (September 17, 2025), 194 students were affected.

Garut Police Station recorded 194 students affected, of which 177 students had mild symptoms and 19 students were in intensive care at the Kadungora Health Center.

Garut Police Chief AKBP Yugi Bayu Hendarto speaking through Head of Public Relations Ipda Adi Susilo said the alleged poisoning experienced by hundreds of students started after consuming MBG that was distributed in the kitchen of SPPG Yayasan Al Bayyinah 2 Garut in Karangmulya village. They consume white rice, woku chicken, tempe orek, vegetable salad, and strawberry fruit.

Not long after eating the meal, he said, a number of students began to feel symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and dizziness since Tuesday (16/09/2025) afternoon. The condition continued until Wednesday (17/9/2025) so dozens of students had to get medical treatment.

He said the total number of victims treated consisted of students of MA Maarif Cilageni as 12 people, Siti Aisyah Junior High School 3 people, Siti Aisyah High School 1 person, and SDN 2 Mandalasari 3 people. “The total number of 19 students should undergo treatment at the Kadungora Health Center,” he said on Thursday (18/9/2025).

He said the police took quick steps from going to the scene, registering victims, asking for witnesses. Send samples of leftover food and vomit to the laboratory and coordinate with the Kadungora Health Center.

“We are also collecting information to confirm whether or not there have been additional victims and we are continuing to investigate further to determine the causal factors,” he said.

In addition, including the possibility of testing food samples by the authorities and investigative steps will continue. Adi said the victims were still in the care of medical personnel while police along with the relevant services were investigating the exact cause of the mass poisoning. “There are still outpatients and hospitalizations,” he said.
