8 games in charge

Nottingham Forest have sacked Ange Postecoglou after just eight matches and 39 days in charge. The Australian boss was appointed to replace Nuno Espírito Santo on September 9 by chairman Evangelos Marinakis, but Postecoglou has presided over a poor run of form and ends his short tenure at the City Ground without a single victory in the Premier League. Forest's 3-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday was the final straw for Marinakis, who reportedly left his seat an hour into the match. Postecoglou cut a lonely figure on the pitch at the full time whistle as boos rung out from the stands. Remarkably, within 15 minutes of the full-time whistle being sounded, the club confirmed the 60-year-old had been relieved of his first-team duties - just 39 days into a three-year contract.
Postecoglou's reign is the shortest of any manager in Premier League history to leave their post during a season. Indeed, he is only nine days behind Sam Allardyce, who parted ways with Leeds United after 30 days, and earned just 0.25 points per game. Arguably no manager in Europe had been feeling the pressure more than Postecoglou, with Forest fans turning on the ex-Celtic boss, and he leaves winless in his last 12 games in the Premier League, spanning back to his reign with Tottenham Hotspur. He was sacked by Spurs in the summer due to their 17th place finish in the Premier League, despite winning the Europa League. No manager has lost more games in 2025 than Postecoglou (22).
Which managers have lost the most games in 2025?
From analysing Transfermarkt’s data from managers of top five league clubs across all competitions in 2025, Postecoglu has lost the most games in the calendar year. The former Celtic boss has taken charge of 40 games for Tottenham and Nottingham Forest but lost 22 of them. Girona manager Míchel ranks second with 18 defeats in 30 games.
Girona enjoyed great success under Míchel across the last few years, gaining promotion to LaLiga before qualifying for the Champions League but they’re languishing third bottom of the league this season. Interestingly alongside Postecoglou, four other coaches to have managed Premier League clubs in 2025 feature in the top 10 list. Ruud van Nistelrooy and Kieran McKenna were relegated with Leicester and Ipswich respectively, while Vitor Pereira remains in position at Wolves. Rúben Amorim’s problems at Manchester United have been well-documented with the Portuguese boss losing 15 of 39 games in 2025 - including the Europa League final to Postecoglou’s Spurs.
