Inter Milan have emerged as the frontrunner to sign Al-Ittihad star Moussa Diaby. According to a report by Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, the former Bayer Leverkusen and Aston Villa star is now pushing for a return to European football. A move could be complicated by the fact that Al-Ittihad, thus far have been reluctant to sell the 26-year-old winger.

Al-Ittihad paid €60 million to Aston Villa to sign Diaby two years ago. This season, Diaby has scored 3 goals and provided 11 assists in 24 games across all competitions for the Saudi Pro League club. Capable of playing on either wing and also more central if needed, Diaby can fill several roles, which could make him a good fit in Inter Milan’s system, especially as the club will be without the injured Denzel Dumfries, Hakan Çalhanoğlu, Nicolò Barella, and might also sell Luis Henrique.

At first glance, Diaby might not be a natural fit for Christian Chivu’s 3-5-2 system. But with Diaby’s ability to play out wide and more of an inside midfield role, the addition could make sense. Furthermore, Diaby has a proven record in Europe’s top four leagues. The winger managed ten goals and 11 assists in just 54 games for Aston Villa, four goals and seven assists in 34 games for PSG, and 49 goals and 47 assists in 172 games for Bayer Leverkusen.

Diaby to Inter Milan – What sort of player is the Frenchman?

As already highlighted, Diaby’s best fit is on the wing. But with his speed, he can also play further back and has also been employed as a no.10 or support striker. Equipped with incredible speed, Diaby has the ability to overrun defensive lines and get into dangerous scoring positions. One significant weakness, however, has been his finishing and decision-making in the final third.
