Over the past few years, Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni has been one of the world's best. He has helped the Italian giants make two Champions League finals and won two Scudettos. Right now, only Arsenal's William Saliba (€90 million) has a higher market value than Bastoni's €80m, although the 26-year-old is expected to slightly drop in value in the upcoming Serie A market value update on March 24.
Bastoni has become synonymous with Inter Milan, but this summer, it may finally be time to move on. The latest reports in Italy suggest that Inter are seriously considering listening to offers for the defender to fund their own transfer activity in the upcoming window. This news will have many of Europe's top clubs on red alert, and here at Transfermarkt, we have picked out four clubs who could sign the Italian this summer.
Four transfer destinations for Alessandro Bastoni
Barcelona
The current favourites for Bastoni's signature are LaLiga giants Barcelona, with some reports suggesting that the Catalan club are the player's preferred destination. It's no secret that Barca are on the hunt for a new centre-back this summer, and Bastoni's experience as well as his adequate pace could make him the ideal choice for Hansi Flick's high-line. He could make a potential colossal centre-back partnership with youngster Pau Cubarsí.
Liverpool
Perhaps no top European club need Bastoni quite as much as Liverpool. The Reds missed out on Marc Guéhi last summer, and are extremely short in the centre of their defence. Ibrahima Konaté's contract situation is still unresolved, whilst 34-year-old Virgil van Dijk is not getting any younger. Bastoni would be a statement signing at Anfield and could help turn the tide after the club's meagre Premier League title defence.
Real Madrid
Bastoni has also been linked with Barca's El Clásico rivals Real Madrid. Los Blancos have been in the market for a centre-back for sometime and have consistently been linked with the likes of Saliba and Konaté in recent years. Bastoni would represent the kind of star suited to wearing the famous white of Real Madrid and could help get the club back to winning the top trophies, with defence having often been their kryptonite in recent times.
Chelsea
Chelsea are currently crying out of an experienced leader at the back. Their team of youngsters can be unplayable on their day, but damn right naive when it's not. They sometimes bleed arrogance and seem in desperate need for some anchoring by some top players in their prime years. Bastoni would be exactly what the Blues need. However, they could miss out on making the Champions league places which would likely deter the Italian. Chelsea also have to be careful when it comes to their spending, after this week being handed a suspended transfer ban.
