After unprecedented success under Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United supporters have endured a decade of disappointment. Arguably the biggest club in English football, United haven’t been crowned Premier League champions since Ferguson retired in 2013 and arch rivals Liverpool equalled their record of 20 top-flight titles last season. Rúben Amorim endured a miserable debut season in charge at Old Trafford with United recording their lowest ever Premier League finish in 15th place and they lost the Europa League title final to Tottenham.

Upon his arrival, Amorim warned that ‘dark days’ were on the horizon and they’ve almost been omnipresent during the Portuguese manager’s tenure so far. The 40-year-old also claimed that ‘good times’ would return to United and there’s growing positivity after a famous win over Liverpool at Anfield. After Transfermarkt’s recent Premier League market value update, United remained the seventh most valuable team in England and the 11th in the world. And we’ve analysed which players received the biggest market value upgrades and downgrades in the latest update.

Manchester United: Biggest market valued upgrades and downgrades

Only four Man United players received upgrades in the October update; Bryan Mbuemo, Senne Lammens, Matheus Cunha and Ayden Heaven. Mbuemo was the biggest winner, increasing by €15m from €55m to €75m, to reflect the €75m fee that United paid Brentford to secure his services. Lammens (+€11m) and Cunha (+€10m) also received significant upgrades to bring their valuations in line with the fees United paid for them. Although Heaven has only played three minutes in the Premier League this season, the England youth international’s valuation doubled to reflect his status as a first-team squad member at United.

Conversely, seven United players received downgrades with Manuel Ugarte’s valuation dropping significantly by €10m. The Uruguay international has failed to impress since his €50m move from PSG last summer, despite being reunited with his former Sporting CP coach Amorim. Lisandro Martínez was downgraded due to not playing while Bruno Fernandes and Amad dropped despite both being key players. Kobbie Mainoo and Joshua Zirkzee have struggled badly for minutes this campaign and their market value downgrades reflect that.
