Prabowo Orders Stronger Troop Development, Plans Deployment of 20,000 Indonesian Soldiers to Gaza

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Prabowo Subianto visited the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Tuesday (Nov 25, 2025). He was received by Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, Air Force Chief of Staff (KSAU) Air Chief Marshal Mohamad Tonny Harjono, Deputy Army Chief of Staff (Wakasad) Lt. Gen. Muhammad Saleh Mustafa, and Deputy Navy Chief of Staff (Wakasal) Vice Adm. Erwin S. Aldedharma.

“The President held an online meeting, accompanied by the Defense Minister and the TNI Commander, to deliver directives on strengthening troop development to maintain national stability,” the Presidential Media Team said, as quoted by Republika.

In the briefing with Minister Sjafrie and General Agus, it was reported that Indonesia has established 150 Territorial Development Battalions (Yon TP) this year. The number will continue to rise annually, with a target of 750 Yon TP by the end of 2029.

“These battalions will be responsible for safeguarding territorial integrity, protecting national interests, and securing strategic industries related to state sovereignty,” the Presidential Media Team stated.

President Prabowo also discussed plans to deploy 20,000 army personnel to Gaza, Palestine. The troops would operate under a United Nations (UN) mandate to support the rehabilitation of residential areas in Gaza.

“Indonesia has prepared a UN peacekeeping contingent that will be tasked with delivering humanitarian assistance and supporting recovery efforts in post-conflict zones,” the Presidential Media Team added.
