The Champions League last 16 draw produced some exhilarating ties with PSG’s clash with Chelsea amongst the best. Opinion is still firmly divided on the new league phase of football’s most prestigious club competition but the knockout stages remain unrivalled. PSG are the reigning champions with Luis Enrique leading the French giants to their maiden Champions League title last season, beating Inter Milan 5-0 in the win.
Chelsea also lifted a European trophy last season, albeit in the much inferior Conference League but they also won the Club World Cup in the summer. The Blues pulled off a massive shock, defeating favourites PSG 3-0 in the final and they duo renewed their rivalry in Paris tonight. Ahead of the first leg, we’ve compiled the most expensive combined XI between both clubs based on their transfer fees.
PSG vs Chelsea: Most expensive XI
The total cost of the combined XI is €824 million with six PSG stars and five Chelsea players represented. Enzo Fernández is Chelsea’s most expensive signing in history at €121m and the biggest transfer fee paid for any player currently at either club - PSG hold the world record for Neymar at €222m. Fernández forms a midfield trio in the 4-3-3 formation alongside Chelsea teammate Moisés Caicedo and PSG’s João Neves.
As the graphic above illustrates, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was the most expensive signing in the front three at €80m, alongside PSG colleague Gonçalo Ramos (€65m) and Pedro Neto (€60m). There’s an even split in defence with Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella (€65m) and Wesley Fofana (€80m) joined by PSG’s Achraf Hakimi (€68m) and Ilya Zabarnyi (€63m) - Lucas Chevalier is the goalkeeper.
