Celtic 20th, Arsenal 14th - Which European clubs had the highest average attendances in 2025?

Football is the most popular sport in the world and a testament to its worldwide appeal is the remarkable cathedrals of sport that dominate the skylines of many of Europe’s biggest cities. Every weekend millions of people attend football games across the continent and as such some of the biggest clubs in the world can lay claim to truly remarkable attendances at each and every home game. But which European giants averaged the highest home attendances over the course of 2025? Today Transfermarkt can reveal exactly that.

At the base of the top 20, Scottish Premiership side Celtic prop up the list with an average attendance of 55,481, just behind German heavyweights HSV who, despite only winning promotion from the second tier, commanded crowds of 56,902 this year. Eintracht Frankfurt and Real Betis sit neck-and-neck with averages of 58,141 and 58,350 respectively, while Benfica represent Portugal in 16th with 58,499. Moving into the top 15, another German side, Stuttgart, posted figures of 59,375, sitting just below Premier League giants Arsenal and Liverpool, who recorded averages of 60,199 and 60,427 respectively. Tottenham Hotspur edge their London rivals with 60,943, while Atlético Madrid narrowly miss out on the top 10 with 61,544.

Breaking into the top 10, Schalke 04 highlight the incredible fan culture in Germany with an average of 61,904 in the 2.Bundesliga, closely followed by West Ham at 62,461. Italian capital club Roma sit in eighth with 62,872, while French powerhouse Marseille recorded 64,401. The Milan giants occupy the next two spots, with Inter Milan drawing 69,840 fans on average, just surpassed by their city rivals AC Milan, who brought in 72,033 supporters to the San Siro. The top four is dominated by European royalty, starting with Real Madrid, whose renovated Bernabéu saw average crowds of 72,973. Manchester United take the podium spot in third with 73,880 at Old Trafford. Bayern Munich claim second place with a perfect average of 75,000, but it is Borussia Dortmund who stand alone at the summit. The Yellow Wall helped drive an incredible average attendance of 81,365, cementing their status as the best-supported club in European football throughout 2025.

To no great surprise, German football dominates the top 20 with six representatives from the Bundesliga and one from the 2.Bundesliga, underscoring the incredible fan support across both divisions. The English Premier League follows closely with five clubs, while Italy’s Serie A and Spain’s LaLiga each contribute three teams to the list. The remaining spots are filled by single representatives from France’s Ligue 1, Portugal’s Liga Portugal, and the Scottish Premiership.
