Although football is ultimately decided by actions on the pitch, the modern game is often dictated by actions that happen in each transfer window. The cornerstone of any great team is a smart manager and a good squad of players, but sometimes clubs can enjoy a boost on the pitch thanks to some smart signings off it. So which Premier League clubs have benefited the most in front of goal from some clever new arrivals in the summer transfer window?

Despite the fact that huge sums of money were spent on individual players in the summer window, the club that has benefited the most from new signings has in fact been Leeds United, who more or less signed an entirely new squad in the transfer window. No less than 10 players made the move to Daniel Farke’s side and after seven games they make up no less than 86% of all the goals scored by the Elland Road side this season. In second place is Burnley. But, in stark contrast to Leeds, Scott Parker’s side have relied on more or less one new signing in particular, with Jaidon Anthony making his move to the club permanent in the summer and has since scored 57% of his team’s goals in the league campaign.

Below the two promoted clubs are some familiar big-hitters. Newcastle are in third place with half of their league goals to date coming from new signings, followed by Arsenal (36%), Manchester United (33%) and then Liverpool (31%) to make up the top six. Curiously, just two clubs have yet to see a new signing score a goal for them in the Premier League this season: Crystal Palace and Fulham. This is despite the fact that both clubs blew their summer budgets on attacking talents, with Yéremy Pino joining Palace for €30 million and Brazilian winger Kevin joining the Craven Cottage side for €40m. But, unfortunately, neither player has found the back of the net in the league just yet.

Which new signings have scored the most goals and assists this season?

If we then take a look at which attacking players have truly hit the ground running since swapping clubs in the summer, we can see that there are some players that perhaps don’t stand out among the aforementioned club breakdown. For example, while Nick Woltemade’s three goals explain Newcastle’s spot in third and the success of Anthony at Burnley has previously been noted, there has also been Jack Grealish’s loan move to Everton, which has so far led to five goals and assists in the Merseyside club’s first seven games. Alongside Grealish is João Pedro, who has started his Chelsea career in fine form with five goals and assists to date too.

Arsenal and Liverpool fans will certainly be content with the impressive starts their new forwards have made, with Viktor Gyökeres and Hugo Ekitiké bagging three and four goal contributions respectively. And Sunderland fans may be surprised to see Granit Xhaka make the top 10 list, despite playing in a defensive midfield role. But the one new signing that has outshone all other attacking additions so far this season is none other than Mohammed Kudus, who has undoubtedly proven crucial to Tottenham’s rise to third in the league table with one goal and five assists in Spurs’ first seven games of the season.
