Lionel Messi has committed his long-term future to Inter Miami by signing a new contract until 2028. The legendary Argentinian’s deal was due to expire at the end of the current MLS campaign but he has penned a new three-year deal. Messi moved to Inter Miami after leaving PSG in 2023 and he’s continued to put up incredible numbers in the United States.
The 38-year-old has 71 goals and 37 assists for Miami and he finished as the 2025 MLS Golden Boot winner for the regular season. The Barcelona icon inspired Miami to their first two trophies in their history after being established in 2018. The South Florida side won the 2023 Leagues Cup and the 2024 MLS Supporters’ Shield but winning the MLS remains the ultimate aim.
Lionel Messi signs new Inter Miami contract
Messi is arguably the greatest footballer of all the time and he expressed his delight after committing his future to the club. He told the Inter Miami website: “It makes me really happy to stay here and to continue with this project that, besides being a dream, has become a beautiful reality — playing in this stadium, at Miami Freedom Park. Since I arrived in Miami, I’ve been very happy, so I’m truly glad to keep going here.
Miami is currently building a new $1billion stadium complex that is scheduled to open next spring and Messi can’t wait to play there. He added: “We’re all really excited about the moment when we can finally play at Miami Freedom Park. We can’t wait for it to be finished — to experience it from the inside, in our new home, and for the fans to enjoy it as well. It’s going to be something very special to play at home in such a spectacular stadium.”
