It’s not been a vintage year in the world of football but 2025 has undeniably thrown up some fascinating storylines and thrilling fixtures. PSG won the Champions League for the first time in their history after the French giant's decade-long quest to win the ultimate trophy in club football. Liverpool equalled Manchester United’s record of most English top-flight titles with 20 after Arne Slot led the Merseyside club to the Premier League crown.

Normal service resumed in Germany as Bayern Munich regained dominance in the Bundesliga, while Napoli reclaimed the Scudetto to spark incredible celebrations in Naples. The Club World Cup underwent major restructuring and Chelsea emerged victorious in the United States after easing past PSG in the final. It’s not been a memorable year, however, for every single footballer and we’ve analysed which players dropped the most in market value in 2025.

Players to receive biggest market value downgrades in 2025

Phil Foden started the year as one of the most valuable players in the world at €140m but he’s been downgraded by €60m across 2025, which is more than any other player. The Manchester City star dropped by €10m in March, €30m in May and €20m in October’s Premier League update. The English international has shown glimpses of his best form in recent months but his valuation remained at €80m after December’s update. As the graphic below illustrates, Foden’s teammate at Man City, Rodri ranks second with his market value dropping by €55m.

The Spanish international won the Balon d’Or in 2024 but he suffered a serious knee injury and he’s struggled to stay fit after returning. Vinicius Junior - who rivaled Rodri for the Balon d’Or last year - ranks third with his valuation dropping by €50m across the year after struggling to excel for Real Madrid. Two other LaLiga stars complete the top five in Barcelona's Gavi and Real Madrid’s Rodrygo.
