While some footballers spend Christmas Day on the training ground preparing for English football's Boxing day fixtures, some spend December 25 unwrapping gifts and enjoying a rare moment away from the spotlight. But a select group of stars have a rather different claim to the date - it’s the day they were born. From established superstars to upcoming talents, Christmas Day birthdays cover the globe. On Christmas Day itself, Transfermarkt unwraps the data to reveal the most valuable players born on December 25, celebrating the festive birthdays that have helped shape the modern game - and proving that for some, Christmas really does come every year.
Leading the way as the most valuable Christmas day-born baby is Galatasaray full-back Wilfried Singo. The Ivorian has a current market value of €28 million and was born on December 25, 2000. In second place is young Greek talent Christos Mouzakitis. The teenager recently saw his market value hit €25m and will turn 19 years old this Christmas. Third goes to Aston Villa and Argentina playmaker Emiliano Buendía, who was born on Christmas day of 1996 and has a current market value of €18m.
There is then a huge drop in value to the next Christmas baby, with Stade Reims midfielder Mory Gbane who takes fourth with a €4m market value. In fifth is Strasbourg's Abakar Sylla who is worth €3m and was born in 2002. Then it's 1997-born Oleksiy Gutsulyak of Ukrainian side Polissya Zhytomyr - he is also valued at €3m. As illustrated above, five other players born on Christmas day are worth €1.5m or higher.
