For some clubs, 2025 will always be an unforgettable year. Liverpool equalled Manchester United’s record for English top-flight title after winning the Premier League. There were incredible scenes in Naples as Scott McTominay inspired Napoli to their first Scudetto in 33 years. After a decade of vast investment, PSG finally won their maiden Champions League crown after an emphatic 5-0 win over Inter Milan in the final.



Outside of Europe, Flamengo emerged victorious in the battle of Brazil against Palmeiras in the Copa Libertadors final. Not every club, however, has enjoyed such a memorable year and many will hope 2026 brings better memories than 2025. Whether that be due to relegation, losing finals or failing to meet expectations, various clubs won’t remember this year fondly. And using Transfermarkt’s renowned market values, we’ve calculated which clubs lost the most market value in 2025.



Every major worldwide league received a market value update in December, which allowed us to work out which squads had the biggest downgrades across the calendar year. Perhaps surprisingly, Real Sociedad lost more market value than any other club, dropping by €177m. La Real have endured a terrible year, finishing 11th in LaLiga last season and they are currently languishing just above the relegation places in 16th.



As the graphic above illustrates, Bayer Leverkusen rank second and that’s mainly due to losing so many key players in the summer with Florian Wirtz - with a market value of €140m - the most high-profile example. Five of the clubs in the top ten list were relegated from the top five leagues last summer, including Leicester City and Aston Villa. Despite enjoying an excellent season, Aston Villa feature while Manchester United’s presence is due to the continuing struggles under Rúben Amorim.
