Presiden Prabowo Subianto kembali menyindir keras direksi badan usaha milik negara (BUMN) yang mencatatkan kerugian tetapi tetap meminta tantiem. Sindiran tersebut ia sampaikan saat memberikan sambutan pada acara peresmian Infrastruktur Energi Terintegrasi Pertamina Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) Balikpapan, Kalimantan Timur, Senin (12/1/2026).
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — President Prabowo Subianto said the government will soon start a number of downstream projects worth $6 billion in the coming weeks. During the inauguration of the Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) of Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, which was monitored online via YouTube by the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta on Monday (12/1/2026), Prabowo called the project part of a national strategy to accelerate industrialization and increase the added value of Indonesia's natural resources.
According to Prabowo, there are at least six downstream projects ready to start at an early stage. In fact, the number of such projects could potentially grow to 11 projects.
“We will start in a few weeks too. We expect a minimum of six downstream projects, maybe up to 11 projects. The value is approximately 6 billion US dollars,” President said.
President explained that the downstream project will be accompanied by an influx of large investments from abroad. Therefore, the government pays great attention to human resource readiness as well as project governance.
“I expect the investment that will come in is quite large. For that, we have to really prepare crews, prepare management, and prepare young managers who are able to manage these projects,” he said.
Furthermore, Prabowo said the industrialization process ideally takes a long time, it can even reach 10 to 20 years. However, the government is working to accelerate these stages through integrated policies and support.
The president also stressed downstream is key for Indonesia in the face of intensifying global competition. According to Prabowo, abundant natural wealth will not be enough if it is not accompanied by the strengthening of industry, because it risks not providing optimal benefits to the nation.
In addition, the success of downstream programs depends heavily on the availability of funding as well as good management. The optimistic government is able to achieve the national downstream goals with professional and purposeful management.
“If we are not strong but we are rich, our wealth can be seized. Therefore, we have to work hard running downstream programs. We need funds, but I am optimistic that with good management, we will be able to achieve that downstream goal,” the president explained.
