Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has confirmed that he intends on leaving the club at the end of the season, when his contract with the Old Trafford club expires. In a post on his social media channels, the defensive midfielder stated his admiration for the Premier League giants and underlined his determination to work as hard as possible for the remainder of the season. “Knowing when stages come to an end,” said Casemiro on an Instagram post. “Knowing when to say goodbye when you feel that you will be remembered and respected forever. Four months to give my all for this badge and for our goal. Eternal respect and affection for Manchester United and its wonderful fans. Forever Red Devil.”
Casemiro joined Man Utd in 2022 for a fee of €71 million and has to date made 146 appearances for the Old Trafford side. At the time, his move to the north of England made him the seventh most expensive signing in Man Utd history and fresh off the back of an incredible seven-year spell at Real Madrid that had seen Casemiro win five Champions League titles, expectations were extremely high for the midfielder. However, despite being a regular player throughout his time at Old Trafford, Casemiro never quite lived up to the heights that he promised in 2022.
Despite failing to help guide Man Utd back to the top of the Premier League, the former Brazilian international still won two pieces of silverware at the club: the English League Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024. And while his departure in the summer will come as no surprise to many Man Utd fans, Casemiro remains a regular starter for the club. To date, the 33-year-old talent has stated 86% of Man Utd’s Premier League games and will almost certainly require the club to sign a ready-made replacement for him in the summer transfer window.
