Transfermarkt has updated the market values of 388 players in the Norwegian Eliteserien League this December. It's a division that has become renowned for producing great young talent in recent years. Manchester City paid Rosenborg €15 million for midfielder Sverre Nypan in the summer, whilst superstars such as Erling Haaland and Martin Ødegaard have emerged from the division in the last decade. We have picked out three young stars currently plying their trade in Norway, who have each been given upgrades this winter, and bring you expert insight from TM's Norway scout on the latest youngsters.
Fredrik Sjøvold - 'Similarities to Philipp Lahm'
Bodo Glimt's young right-back Fredrik Sjøvold receives a further +€1m increase to his market value this December to cement his place as the most valuable player in the Norwegian top-flight at €8m. Bastian Schmitz is Transfermarkt's Data Scout in Norway responsible for the Eliteserien division's market values and tells us more about Sjøvold: "The defender is only 22 years old, yet he is very experienced, having already played three seasons of European football with Bodø. He is quite small and agile, but possesses very good defensive qualities and is also involved in the attacking play. A very complete player who reminds me of Philipp Lahm in terms of his playing style."
Edvin Austbø - 20-year-old winger biggest winner
No player rose in value more than Viking winger Edvin Austbø, who shot up by +€2m to a €7m market value. Schmitz reveals why: "The 20-year-old left winger has long been considered a highly-talented player, but finally made his breakthrough during Viking's title-winning season. He is very agile and a strong dribbler, technically gifted, and has a good shot. A move to a top league in the future seems likely."
Oskar Spiten-Nysæter - Teenage talent
At just 18 years of age, one of the other biggest winners from the update was Molde's Oskar Spiten-Nysæter, who rose by 48.2% to a new value of €4m, making him the most valuable teenager in the division. Schmitz explains more: "The left winger is only 18 years old and has already worked his way into the starting team at Molde. He is very fast and dangerous in front of the goal. Huge potential. However, in my opinion, it would be too early for a move to a top-5 league, as he needs playing time for his further development."
