Mohamed Salah wins Player of the Year award - 'none came close to the Egyptian last season'

Each year Transfermarkt users are tasked with voting for the player that they believe outplayed all others across Europe’s top leagues and this year the winner for the Premier League was beyond any doubt. Winning a remarkable 70.3 percent of the vote, Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah blew all other competition out of the water by comfortably being named the Premier League “Player of the Season” by Transfermarkt users. In joint second and third place were Chelsea playmaker Cole Palmer and former Newcastle striker and new Liverpool teammate Alexander Isak, who both won 4.9 percent of the vote each.

Over the course of 38 league games for Arne Slot’s side, Salah bagged an incredible 29 goals and 18 assists in the Premier League last season. Not only did the 33-year-old talent finish the league campaign with 18 more goal contributions than the next best player (Isak), but he also finished above all other players in the league for goals and for assists.

“Liverpool were easily the best team in the Premier League last season and at spearhead of that incredible attack was no one other than Salah,” said UK Area Manager Stefan Bienkowski. “Not only do Salah’s numbers speak for themselves, but his remarkable acceleration and dribbling ability make him a tantalising player to watch and a match-winner that even rival fans can’t help but admire. The Premier League has a number of world class attacking players, but none came close to the Egyptian international last season, who is showing no sign of slowing down after just turning 33 years of age.”

TM users were able to vote for their player of the season in a total of 19 leagues worldwide over the summer, with 24 candidates to choose from in each competition. All the winners and results from the top five leagues to Indonesia and Greece can be found in the gallery below.
