Celtic are no strangers to performing an impressive balancing act of profiting from key players, while still maintaining an iron-clad dominance of the Scottish Premiership each and every season. The Parkhead giants have lost just one of the last 10 league titles in the Scottish top-flight. An outstanding feat made all the more impressive when we consider that the club have earned no less than €254 million from player sales in that time. And that figure may be about to jump even higher in the coming months.

Having been heavily linked with a move to Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, Celtic winger Nicolas Kühn is on his way to  Serie A side Como. The recently-promoted club have won the race to sign Kühn and have agreed to pay a fee in the region of €19 million for the 25-year-old talent. Kühn has been nothing short of a revelation in Scotland, since joining Celtic from Rapid Vienna last January for a fee of just €3.5m.

Over the course of the last season Kühn has comfortably risen to the challenge of scoring and creating goals in equal measure for Celtic, with no less than 21 goals and 15 assists across all competitions. That worked out an impressive 0.98 goal contributions per 90 minutes, with some coming in notably high-profile matches, such as his four goals and assists in the Champions League, with a high-profile goal against Bayern Munich in the first knock-out round. As such, Kühn’s market value has skyrocketed since making the move to Celtic, where it once stood at just €1.5m before his move to Glasgow but now stands at an impressive €12m. And that figure will likely rise if he were to earn a big-money move this summer.

Celtic top 10 biggest sales

According to multiple reports in Scotland, Celtic were holding out for a fee of at least £15m (€17.5m) if they were forced to sell the winger this summer and have seemingly negotiated a fee well beyond that with Como. If the German winger does indeed move for €19m it, will fall in line with the going rate for Celtic’s key players in recent years. As we can see in the graphic, the Scottish Premiership giants have earned sizable sums for their attacking players in recent seasons, such as the €29.5m fee Brighton paid for Matt O’Riley or indeed the €29.1m the club received when they sold Jota to Al-Ittihad the season before that. Should Kühn demand a fee of €19m, the German winger will then climb into the top five of Celtic’s most valuable sales of all time.
