The Scottish Premiership has received its latest market value update at Transfermarkt with 306 players witnessing their valuations increase or decrease. Celtic were crowned champions for the 13th time in 14 seasons to cement their dominance of Scottish football but they missed out on clinching another treble with Aberdeen victorious in the Scottish Cup final. Pivotal to Celtic’s success was Daizen Maeda with the Japanese attacker registering 45 goal contributions in 51 games and the 27-year-old is now the most valuable player in Scotland.

Unsurprisingly, Celtic remain the most valuable club in Scotland with their squad’s valuation increasing by €1.02 million to €131.8m. Celtic, however, weren’t the biggest winners from the 2024/25 end of season update as that title went to Motherwell with their squad value (€17.55m) soaring by €3.3m - due to Lennon Miller - with Aberdeen’s increasing by €1.75m to €23.9m. Conversely, Rangers’ squad valuation dropped the most by €2.9m to €76.6m with four other clubs receiving downgrades. The aforementioned changes to certain clubs should become clear when we analyse which players received significant updates in the latest release.

Celtic and Rangers dominate: The most valuable players in the Scottish Premiership

Maeda is the most valuable player in Scotland at €15m after receiving a €4m upgrade in the end of season Scottish Premiership update. The dynamic attacker has moved ahead of Celtic teammate Cameron-Cameron Vickers at €14m - Kyogo was also at €14m after December’s update but departed for Rennes in January. “Maeda has rightly been heralded for his relentless work-rate since joining Celtic but he improved his attacking output considerably last season,” said Euan Robertson, UK Content Manager. “He scored 33 goals in all competitions, which was three times higher than his previous record of 11 at Celtic during the 22/23 campaign.”

As the graphic above illustrates, Celtic have the five most valuable players in Scotland with Nicolas Raskin the highest player outside the Scottish champions. Raskin’s market value increased to €10m and Rangers face a fight to keep the midfielder at Ibrox this summer. “Raskin has finally delivered on his undeniable potential on a regular basis in 2025. His form gained recognition on the international stage as he made his Belgium debut in March and he’s impressed with the national team. Although Raskin’s market value stands at €10m, it’s understood that Rangers want in excess of €15m to sell him this summer with bids anticipated.”

The biggest winners from the Scottish Premiership market value update

Two players received €4m upgrades in the latest update - Motherwell’s Miller and Celtic’s Maeda. Miller recently made his Scotland debut and he’s widely regarded as one of the best young talents in the Scottish Premiership. The Motherwell star’s market value doubled from €4m to €8m and the Lanarkshire side will receive a club-record fee when he’s sold this summer - David Turnbull’s €3m move to Celtic is the current highest. “Miller is an exceptional prospect and plays with a maturity beyond his years. He will leave Fir Park this summer and it’s understood that his preference is to continue his development by moving abroad but Premier League clubs could offer a tempting alternative.”

As the graphic above illustrates, Raskin’s €3.5m increase secures third place with his Rangers teammate Hamza Igamane in fourth place (+€3m). Igamane’s 16 goals is an impressive return for a 22-year-old in his first season in European football and Ranger are likely to receive offers for him this summer in excess of his €7m valuation. Two Aberdeen players feature in the top ten list in Jack Milne and Alexander Jensen, while Hearts’ James Penrice is also rewarded for an excellent debut season at Hearts.

The biggest downgrades from the Scottish Premiership market value update

The top ten biggest downgrades list features solely players from Scotland’s two biggest clubs, Celtic and Rangers. This is mainly due to poor form or players getting older and it’s a combination of both factors for several players on the list. Danilo arrived at Rangers to considerable fanfare for €6.3m in 2023 but injuries have seriously disrupted his time in Glasgow. The Brazilian was reduced to fleeting substitute appearances last season and his market value has been halved to €2m.

Jeffrey Schlupp moved to Celtic on-loan from Crystal Palace in January but valuation also halved to €2m as his contract at Palace will expire this summer and he’s unlikely to remain in the English Premier League. Auston Trusty has failed to impress after Celtic spent €7.1m to sign him last summer and he’s lost his starting place with his market value dropping by €1.5m. Both Old Firm captains, Callum McGregor and James Tavernier received €1.5m downgrades due to their age, with Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland also dropping by the same amount.

How Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.
The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
